Overview of Gene Research
Thbs3, short for thrombospondin 3, is an adhesive glycoprotein belonging to the thrombospondin gene family. It is involved in cell-cell and cell-matrix interactions [1]. The Thbs3 gene shows a unique expression pattern with high levels in the lung [6]. It may participate in multiple biological processes, and its dysregulation is associated with various diseases [1,3,4,5,7,8].
In acute myocardial infarction (AMI), low THBS3 expression in peripheral blood is related to AMI and is an independent risk factor, potentially serving as a novel biomarker for early detection [1]. In pseudorabies virus (PRV) infection, THBS3 acts as a new PRV coreceptor, interacting with PRV gD to facilitate virus attachment, fusion, and entry [2]. In clear cell renal cell carcinoma (ccRCC), elevated THBS3 expression predicts poor overall survival and is closely related to immunity [4]. Additionally, in gout, THBS3 is among the genes potentially associated with the disease, and increased expression may be related to a reduced gout risk [3,7].
In conclusion, Thbs3 plays important roles in cell-related interactions and is associated with multiple diseases such as AMI, PRV-related infections, ccRCC, and gout. These disease-related associations suggest that understanding Thbs3 function could provide insights into disease mechanisms and potential therapeutic strategies. [1,2,3,4,7]
