Overview of Gene Research
Mfsd10, a member of the major facilitator superfamily, is an eosinophil-specific cell surface molecule. It may be involved in maintaining cellular homeostasis as it belongs to a superfamily of transporters that move substances across lipid membranes [4]. Its role in diseases is of particular interest, especially in relation to eosinophil-related disorders [1,2].
In studies, monoclonal antibodies against Mfsd10 were developed. Administration of an anti-Mfsd10 monoclonal antibody (M2) significantly suppressed antigen-induced lung eosinophil infiltration in both ovalbumin-immunized and Th2 cell-transferred mice, similar to anti-Siglec-F. This indicates that Mfsd10 could be an effective target for treating eosinophil-related disorders such as bronchial asthma [1]. Also, Mfsd10 expression levels were found to be decreased with elevated or depleted energy consumption, suggesting its potential role in energy-related processes [3].
In conclusion, Mfsd10 is an eosinophil-specific molecule that has potential implications in treating eosinophil-related disorders like bronchial asthma. The use of monoclonal antibodies against it in in vivo models has demonstrated its role in suppressing eosinophil-mediated inflammation. Additionally, its expression changes in relation to energy consumption imply a role in energy-related biological processes [1,3].
