Overview of Gene Research
Tst can refer to the gene encoding toxic shock syndrome toxin-1 (TSST-1) in Staphylococcus aureus. TSST-1 is an important virulence factor of tst-positive S. aureus, which can lead to multi-organ malfunction. The tst gene associated Staphylococcus aureus Pathogenicity Island may play a critical role in the pathological process of infection, promoting the secretion of inflammatory cytokines such as IL-6, IL-2 and IL17A, and inducing immune suppression [1].
The prevalence of the tst gene was approximately 17.8% among the examined bacterial strains. BALB/c mice infected with tst gene-associated SaPI positive isolates showed severe body weight loss, high bacterial load in multiple organs, and more severe tissue impairment [1].
In conclusion, the tst gene in S. aureus is crucial in the pathogenesis of infection. The animal experiments with BALB/c mice infected with tst-positive isolates have revealed its role in promoting inflammation and immune suppression, which is significant for understanding the mechanism of S. aureus-related diseases.
