Strain Description

The Pdgfra gene encodes a cell surface tyrosine kinase receptor for members of the platelet-derived growth factor family. The binding of the platelet-derived growth factor protein-ligand to the receptor triggers receptor dimerization and autophosphorylation, activating several downstream signaling pathways. Signal transduction through the encoded receptor plays a role in gastrulation and the development of nearly all organ systems.

This strain was constructed using gene editing technology. The coding sequence of the exon 2 plus partial intron 2 were replaced with “Cre-rBGpA” cassette. The Cre recombinase gene was knocked into the endogenous Pdgfra gene in mice, driving its specific expression under the mouse Pdgfra promoter. When Pdgfra-Cre mice are crossed with mice containing loxP sites, the offspring can produce sequence recombination between loxP sites mediated by Cre recombinase in the cell bodies of the inner nuclear layer (INL) of the retina. Some studies have shown that expression can also be observed in the outer nuclear layer (ONL) and ganglion cell layer (GCL). The heterozygous Pdgfra-Cre mice are viable and fertile.

The coding sequence of the exon 2 plus partial intron 2 were replaced with “Cre-rBGpA” cassette.

The Cre recombinase gene is located on chromosome 5 in Pdgfra-Cre mice. Please avoid breeding with gene-edited mice targeting the same chromosome as the Cre mice.
