Overview of Gene Research
TMEM82, whose full name is Transmembrane Protein 82, has its role yet to be comprehensively defined in terms of its essential function, associated pathways, and overall biological importance. However, genetic models could potentially be valuable in further exploring its functions [1,2].
In a study on hepatocellular carcinoma, TMEM82 was identified as one of the novel differentially-expressed protein-coding genes lacking documented expression profiles in liver cancer, suggesting its possible role in the pathology of hepatocellular carcinoma [1].
In another study related to colorectal cancer, the expression level of TMEM82 was found not to be correlated with the overall survival of patients with CRC, indicating its potential non-involvement in CRC patient survival prognosis [2].
In conclusion, TMEM82 shows potential associations with diseases such as hepatocellular carcinoma and colorectal cancer. In hepatocellular carcinoma, its differential expression implies a possible role in the disease's pathology, while in colorectal cancer, its lack of correlation with patient survival provides insights into its limited role in this aspect. Further research using gene knockout or conditional knockout mouse models could help to more precisely define its biological functions and contributions to these disease areas.
