Overview of Gene Research
Rbm25, an RNA-binding protein, is involved in multiple biological processes such as apoptosis, inflammation, and alternative splicing regulation. It is associated with pathways like endoplasmic reticulum stress, histone modification-related metabolic pathways, and is crucial for maintaining normal cellular functions and homeostasis. Genetic models, especially gene knockout models, have been instrumental in understanding its functions [1-10].
In an inducible Tet2 knockout mouse model, knocking down Rbm25 accelerated the expansion of Tet2-knockout hematopoietic cells both in vitro and in vivo, suggesting that Rbm25 underlies heterogeneous preleukemic clonal expansion [3]. In macrophage-specific Rbm25-deficient mice, there was increased pro-inflammatory mediator production and tissue inflammatory injury, indicating Rbm25's role in restraining inflammation [1]. In colon cancer cells, Rbm25 ablation suppressed cell growth both in vitro and in vivo by regulating the alternative splicing of MNK2 [2].
In conclusion, Rbm25 plays essential roles in apoptosis, inflammation, and tumor-related processes. The use of gene knockout models, like those in mice, has been key in revealing its functions in preleukemic clonal expansion, inflammatory regulation, and cancer-related biological processes, providing potential therapeutic targets for ischemic heart failure, rheumatoid arthritis, colon cancer, and other diseases [1-3, 9].
