Detailed Document
Overview of Gene Research
Tmem201, also known as Samp1, is an integral inner nuclear membrane protein. It plays crucial roles in various biological processes, including endothelial cell migration, angiogenesis, and cell differentiation. It is associated with pathways like the LINC complex-related pathway, TGFβ signaling pathway, and may be involved in cell-cycle-relevant and immune-related pathways [1,2,3]. Genetic models such as knockout mice are valuable for studying its functions.
In Tmem201-knockout mice, retinal vessel development was arrested and aortic ring sprouting was defective, indicating its importance in angiogenesis [1]. In vitro, depletion of Tmem201 expression by short hairpin RNA-mediated interference impeded human umbilical vein endothelial cell angiogenic behavior and migration ability [1]. In hepatocellular carcinoma, in vitro experiments validated that TMEM201 facilitated HCC proliferation, survival, and migration [2]. In breast cancer, TMEM201 was found to promote metastasis by positive regulating TGFβ signaling [3].
In conclusion, Tmem201 is essential for endothelial cell migration and angiogenesis, and it significantly impacts cancer progression in hepatocellular carcinoma and breast cancer. The study of Tmem201 knockout mouse models has provided insights into its role in these biological processes and disease conditions, helping to understand the underlying mechanisms and potentially guiding future therapeutic strategies.
