Overview of Gene Research
Nol10, also known as polyglutamine binding protein 5 (PQBP5), is an intrinsically disordered protein expressed in the nucleolus. It makes up the skeletal structure of the nucleolus, forming the granule meshwork in the granular component area. PQBP5/Nol10 is essential for maintaining the nucleolus structure under physiological and osmotic stress conditions. It also functions as an anchor for the reassembly of other nucleolar proteins during stress [1].
In a mouse model of NUP98::DDX10 leukemia, loss of Nol10 impaired disease progression and improved survival. Nol10 acts cooperatively with NUP98::DDX10 to regulate serine biosynthesis pathways and stabilize ATF4 mRNA, suggesting it is a critical regulator of this type of leukemia [2].
In conclusion, Nol10 is crucial for maintaining nucleolar structure and function. Its role in leukemia development, as revealed by the NUP98::DDX10 leukemia mouse model, highlights its potential as a therapeutic target in this disease area.
