Overview of Gene Research
Ccl20, a chemokine, is mainly produced by epithelial cells. Its only known high-affinity ligand is for CCR6, driving the migration of CCR6+ cells in tissues. Ccl20 plays a crucial role in inflammatory responses and is involved in autoimmune diseases, cancer progression, and other pathological conditions [1,3].

In autoimmune diseases like inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), psoriasis (PS), rheumatoid arthritis (RA), and multiple sclerosis (MS), disruption of the CCR6-CCL20 interaction using antibodies or antagonists reduces the severity of the disease by preventing the migration of CCR6-expressing immune cells to the inflammation site [1]. In colorectal cancer, Fusobacterium nucleatum promotes cancer metastasis through the miR-1322/CCL20 axis and M2 polarization. CCL20 activated by F. nucleatum not only increases CRC metastasis but also participates in reprogramming the tumor microenvironment [2]. In preeclampsia, CCL20 might be a novel potential predictive and diagnostic biomarker as its levels are upregulated in the plasma of patients with this condition [4].

In conclusion, Ccl20 is essential in mediating cell migration in inflammatory and disease-related processes. Its role in autoimmune diseases and cancer progression is significant, as demonstrated through studies on disrupting its interaction with CCR6 or exploring its role in disease-associated axes. These findings provide potential therapeutic targets for treating autoimmune diseases and cancers [1,2,4].
