Overview of Gene Research
STRAP, short for Serine-threonine kinase receptor-associated protein, functions as a regulator in both TGF-β and p53 signaling pathways, participating in the regulation of cell proliferation and cell death in response to various stresses [1]. It is also implicated in tumorigenesis [2].
In mouse embryonic fibroblasts, loss of STRAP expression leads to reduced phospho-c-Jun and total c-Jun, along with decreased expression of cyclin D1 and a reduction in cell growth. STRAP regulates c-Jun stability by decreasing its ubiquitylation and proteosomal degradation [2].
In human neuroblastoma specimens, higher STRAP expression is correlated with high-risk disease, unfavorable histology, and decreased overall patient survival. Overexpression of STRAP in neuroblastoma cell lines promotes proliferation, growth, and a stem-like phenotype, and activates downstream FAK targets [3].
In conclusion, STRAP plays a crucial role in regulating cell-related processes such as proliferation and apoptosis through its involvement in key signaling pathways. Its dysregulation is associated with tumorigenesis, especially in neuroblastoma, highlighting its importance in understanding cancer-related biological mechanisms.
