Overview of Gene Research
Ncoa7, known as nuclear receptor coactivator 7, is associated with multiple biological functions. It interacts with the vacuolar (V)-ATPase, regulating its assembly and activity, which is crucial for lysosomal function, endolysosomal homeostasis, and normal cellular acid-base balance [1,4]. It also plays a role in immune regulation of endolysosomal physiology and may be involved in processes like cell response to oxidative stress [2,3].
Gene knockout (KO) mouse models have been instrumental in understanding Ncoa7's function. In Ncoa7 KO mice, incomplete distal renal tubular acidosis occurs, likely due to reduced abundance of V-ATPase and other acid-base regulators in the renal medulla, suggesting its importance in kidney IC function and urine acidification [4]. Neurons lacking Ncoa7 show abnormal development, defective lysosomal formation, and mice exhibit anxiety and social defects, indicating its role in neurodevelopment and behavior [1].
