Overview of Gene Research
Tbl3, also known as transducin (beta)-like 3, has diverse functions across different organisms. In plants, it is involved in cell wall biosynthesis, specifically in xylan 3-O-acetylation [1]. In zebrafish, it plays a tissue-specific role in regulating cell cycle rate during development [2].
In Arabidopsis, the simultaneous mutation of Tbl3 and Tbl31 led to a reduction in xylan 3-O-acetylation, and the tbl3 tbl31 esk1 triple mutant showed an even more drastic decrease, indicating functional redundancy in xylan 3-O-acetylation [1]. In zebrafish, the absence of the Tbl3 gene in the cey mutant led to a severe reduction in T cells and hematopoietic stem/progenitor cells (HSPCs), as well as other tissues. The progression of both hematopoietic and retinal development was delayed due to a slowing of the cell cycle [2].
In conclusion, Tbl3 is crucial for cell wall-related processes in plants and for regulating the cell cycle during zebrafish development. The use of mutant models in these organisms has been instrumental in revealing these functions, providing insights into the fundamental biological processes that Tbl3 is involved in.
