Overview of Gene Research
Lhfpl3, lipoma HMGIC fusion partner-like 3, has been involved in multiple biological processes. Its abnormal regulation is associated with various diseases, suggesting its significance in maintaining normal cellular functions [1,2].
In a 24-year-old female with dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor, a novel in-frame fusion between LHFPL3 and NTRK2 was verified. This oncogenic gene rearrangement likely involves aberrant dimerization and constitutive activation of RTK signaling pathways [1].
In glioma cells, miR-218-5p was found to target LHFPL3. Transfection of miR-218-5p reduced cell activity, proliferation, invasive ability and inhibited epithelial-mesenchymal transitions, indicating LHFPL3's role in glioma cell invasiveness [2].
In conclusion, Lhfpl3 is implicated in the pathogenesis of certain nervous system tumors like dysembryoplastic neuroepithelial tumor and glioma. The discovery of its fusion with NTRK2 and regulation by miR-218-5p provides insights into the molecular mechanisms underlying these diseases, which may potentially lead to new therapeutic strategies.
