Overview of Gene Research
Adissp, also known as UPF0687 protein or human C20orf27 homolog, is an adipokine. It is a key regulator for white adipose tissue (WAT) thermogenesis and glucose homeostasis. Its expression is adipose-specific and highly enriched in brown adipose tissue (BAT). Adissp secretion is stimulated by β3-adrenergic activation, and it is involved in pathways related to energy metabolism, which is of great biological importance in obesity and diabetes research [1,2].
Adipose-specific Adissp knockout mice show defects in WAT browning. These mice are more susceptible to high-fat diet-induced obesity and hyperglycemia. This indicates that Adissp plays a crucial role in the browning process of WAT, and its absence disrupts normal energy metabolism, leading to the development of obesity and related metabolic disorders [1].
In conclusion, Adissp is a major upstream signaling component in adipose thermogenesis. The study of Adissp knockout mouse models has revealed its essential function in maintaining normal WAT thermogenesis and glucose homeostasis, contributing to a better understanding of the mechanisms underlying obesity and diabetes, and offering potential treatment avenues for these diseases [1].
