Overview of Gene Research
FAHD2A, a member of the Fumarylacetoacetate hydrolase (FAH) domain-containing proteins, has its function yet to be fully elucidated. Proteins in this family carry out diverse enzymatic reactions likely related to the structural differences in their FAH domains [2].
In bioinformatics studies exploring the link between obesity and hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), FAHD2A was identified as one of the four differentially expressed genes common in obesity and HCC. Functional enrichment analyses indicated its potential roles in processes such as RNA capping, viral transcription, IL-17 signaling, and endocrine resistance. These genes also exhibited negative correlations with immune cell infiltration and immunotherapy markers in HCC, suggesting they may be implicated in obesity-induced hepatocarcinogenesis through regulating cell cycle, inflammation, and immune evasion [1]. Additionally, in a study on stratifying the malignant risk of intraductal papillary mucinous neoplasm of the pancreas, FAHD2A was identified as one of the five discriminatory biomarkers with large LASSO coefficients and an AUC of >0.75 in differentiating low-grade from high-grade/invasive IPMN [3].
In conclusion, FAHD2A, through its differential expression in obesity-related HCC and as a biomarker in pancreatic cyst malignancy risk stratification, appears to be involved in important disease-related processes. The identification of FAHD2A in these disease-associated scenarios contributes to our understanding of the molecular mechanisms underlying obesity-induced hepatocarcinogenesis and pancreatic cyst malignancy, providing potential targets for further research and disease management.
