Overview of Gene Research
Lancl2, short for Lanthionine synthetase C-like 2, exhibits diverse functions. It is involved in multiple biological processes such as redox balance, immunoregulation, and cell proliferation. In redox regulation, it plays a role in testicular homeostasis [2]. Immunologically, it enhances regulatory CD4+ T cell responses, regulating mucosal immunity [1]. Lancl2 is also related to signaling pathways like the Akt and AMPK/PGC-1α/Sirt1 axes [3,4,5].

Genetic ablation of Lancl2 in mice reveals its significance. Inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) and lupus models show severe inflammatory phenotypes upon Lancl2 knockout, indicating its importance in immunoregulation [1]. In Lancl2 knockout mice, sperm parameters are damaged, with disrupted testicular redox homeostasis and acrosomal maturation defects, highlighting its role in testicular function [2]. In EGFR-mutant lung adenocarcinoma, Lancl2 knockdown reduces cell proliferation and enhances apoptosis in vitro and suppresses tumor growth in vivo, suggesting its role in promoting tumorigenesis [4].

In conclusion, Lancl2 is crucial for multiple biological functions including testicular redox balance and immunoregulation. Mouse knockout models have significantly contributed to understanding its role in diseases like IBD, lupus, and certain cancers, providing insights into potential therapeutic strategies targeting Lancl2 in these disease areas.
