Overview of Gene Research
Ces2f, a member of the carboxylesterase 2 (Ces2) family, is a phase I enzyme. Carboxylesterases play a significant role in xenobiotic clearance and lipid metabolism [1]. Genetic models, such as knockout mouse models, can be valuable for studying its functions.
In a study, E4bp4 -/- mice showed down-regulation of an array of hepatic Ces genes including Ces2f [1]. E4bp4 knockdown in Hepa-1c1c7 cells also reduced the expression of Ces2f [1]. This indicates that E4bp4 is involved in regulating the expression of Ces2f. Moreover, E4bp4 -/- mice had reduced Ces-mediated metabolism and elevated systemic exposure of CPT-11, a Ces substrate, suggesting that changes in Ces2f expression, as part of the overall Ces regulation, impact the metabolism of such substrates [1].
In conclusion, Ces2f, as part of the Ces enzyme family, is crucial for xenobiotic clearance and lipid metabolism. The use of E4bp4 -/- mouse models has revealed that E4bp4 is an important regulator of Ces2f expression, and alterations in Ces2f expression can affect the metabolism of its substrates like CPT-11. This contributes to our understanding of the role of Ces2f in drug metabolism-related processes.
