Overview of Gene Research
Sgpp1, sphingosine-1-phosphate phosphatase 1, is an enzyme that dephosphorylates sphingosine-1-phosphate (S1P) into sphingosine, thus influencing the sphingosine-S1P balance. It is involved in multiple biological processes such as lipid metabolism, and is associated with pathways like mTORC1 signaling and fatty acid metabolism [1].

In multiple myeloma, GFI1-dependent repression of SGPP1 increases cell survival by modulating sphingolipid metabolism to raise S1P levels, protecting c-Myc protein stability [2]. In colorectal cancer, sevoflurane inhibits cell proliferation, migration and invasion through regulating the circ_0000423/miR-525-5p/SGPP1 network [3]. In gastric cancer, down-regulation of SGPP1 is associated with lymph node and distant metastasis, and its knockdown promotes cell invasion and migration [4].

In conclusion, Sgpp1 plays a crucial role in lipid metabolism-related biological processes. Studies on Sgpp1 using loss-of-function models in diseases like multiple myeloma, colorectal cancer, and gastric cancer have revealed its significance in cancer cell survival, proliferation, migration, and metastasis, providing potential therapeutic targets for these diseases.
