Detailed Document
Overview of Gene Research
Fetub, also known as fetuin B, is a glycoprotein mainly synthesized and secreted by the liver. It is involved in multiple physiological and pathological processes. FETUB can act as an inhibitor of neprilysin (NEP), and is associated with pathways related to glucose metabolism, inflammatory response, and may play roles in cell-cell interactions. It has been implicated in various diseases, highlighting its biological importance [1,2,3].
In asthma, a lung-specific FETUB knockdown mouse model was used. The results showed that knockdown of FETUB restored NEP activity, reduced neuropeptides CGRP and SP, and improved airway inflammation and hyperresponsiveness. This indicates that epithelial-derived FETUB exacerbates asthma through the inhibition of NEP activity and the resultant accumulation of CGRP and SP [1].
In conclusion, FETUB has diverse functions in different biological processes. The use of gene-knockout (KO) mouse models, like the lung-specific FETUB knockdown model in asthma research, has been crucial in revealing its role in disease conditions. These studies help in understanding the mechanisms underlying diseases such as asthma, providing potential targets for treatment.
