Overview of Gene Research
Hnrnpa2b1, or heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A2/B1, is an N6-methyladenosine (m6A) reader that binds to nascent RNA, influencing various RNA metabolism processes [1,3]. It is involved in key biological pathways such as the innate immune response, cell proliferation, and stress granule regulation, and is of great biological importance in processes like male fertility and in diseases including multiple myeloma, gastric cancer, and glioma [1-3,7-8]. Genetic models, especially knockout (KO) mouse models, are valuable for studying its functions.
Knockout of Hnrnpa2b1 in mice leads to Sertoli cell-only syndrome (SCOS), causing complete male infertility. In these KO mouse Sertoli cells, arsenite-induced stress granules disassemble faster, revealing Hnrnpa2b1's role in regulating stress granule disassembly and male mouse fertility [2]. In multiple myeloma cells, depletion of Hnrnpa2b1 inhibits cell proliferation and induces apoptosis, indicating its promoting role in this cancer's progression [1]. In gastric cancer, silencing hnRNPA2B1 sensitizes cells to chemotherapy, suggesting its involvement in chemoresistance [4].
In conclusion, Hnrnpa2b1 plays essential roles in regulating male fertility, stress granule disassembly, and cancer-related processes like cell proliferation and chemoresistance. Studies using Hnrnpa2b1 KO mouse models have significantly contributed to understanding its functions in male infertility and certain cancer-associated biological processes, providing potential targets for related disease treatments.
