Overview of Gene Research
Kyat3, also known as kynurenine aminotransferase III (KAT3), is involved in kynurenine metabolism [1,5]. Kynurenine metabolism is part of the tryptophan catabolic pathway, which is important for immune regulation, energy metabolism, and neuronal function [1].
In a study on tuberculosis patients, the protein encoded by Kyat3 showed deregulation in drug-naive active tuberculosis patients compared to healthy controls, indicating its potential role in the immune response during tuberculosis [1].
In a zebrafish larvae model, treatment with Lactobacillus gasseri regulated the expression of Kyat3, suggesting its involvement in the protective effects against high-cholesterol diet-induced fatty liver [2].
In critically ill patients and mice, the mRNA expression of Kyat3 in skeletal muscle was affected, and it was associated with clinical outcomes [3].
In idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis patients, the Ksucc levels in the protein encoded by Kyat3 were different compared to the control group, highlighting its potential association with mitochondrial energy metabolism in this disease [4].
In mice, exercise promoted Kyat3 expression in muscle, enhancing kynurenine metabolism and preventing stress or kynurenine-induced depressive-like behavior [5].
In conclusion, Kyat3 plays important roles in multiple biological processes such as kynurenine metabolism, immune response, fatty liver protection, and muscle function in critical illness, as well as in diseases like tuberculosis, fatty liver, and idiopathic pulmonary fibrosis. Studies on Kyat3 using various animal models help to further understand its functions and its potential as a therapeutic target in these disease areas.
