Overview of Gene Research
Il18r1, the interleukin 18 receptor 1, is a key component of the IL-18 receptor complex. IL-18, a cytokine of the IL-1 superfamily, exerts its effects via this receptor complex. The IL-18R complex activates signaling pathways such as NF-κB, which is involved in numerous biological processes including innate and acquired immune responses [2,4].
In mouse models, IL-18 receptor-deficient mice had reduced liver fibrosis in a model of fibrosis induced by HSC-specific NLRP3 overactivation. This indicates that Il18r1-mediated IL-18 signaling promotes the activation of hepatic stellate cells, contributing to liver fibrosis [3]. Also, in lung squamous cell carcinoma, overexpression of Il18r1 in cell experiments inhibited the proliferation, migration, and invasion of LUSC cells, suggesting its tumor-suppressive role [1].
In conclusion, Il18r1 is crucial in immune-related signaling pathways. Mouse models have revealed its significant role in liver fibrosis and lung squamous cell carcinoma, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target in these disease areas.
