Overview of Gene Research
Klf11, also known as Krüppel-like factor 11, is involved in multiple biological functions and pathways, playing a crucial role in maintaining physiological homeostasis. It has been linked to pathways related to cell death, vascular homeostasis, and tumorigenesis [1,2,3]. Genetic models, such as knockout (KO) mouse models, have been valuable in studying Klf11's functions.
In the context of diseases, Klf11 has diverse roles. In lung adenocarcinoma, overexpression of Klf11 promotes ferroptosis, inhibits cell proliferation, and increases chemosensitivity by suppressing GPX4, while Klf11 knockout has the opposite effects [1]. In diabetic atherosclerosis, EC-specific Klf11 knockout mice show accelerated atherogenesis, indicating that endothelial Klf11 is a protector against this condition [2]. Conventional Klf11 knockout mice are more susceptible to stasis-induced deep vein thrombosis, suggesting Klf11 protects against venous thrombosis by downregulating tissue factor gene transcription [3].
In conclusion, Klf11 is a multifunctional gene involved in various biological processes and disease conditions. Model-based research, especially using Klf11 KO mouse models, has revealed its significant roles in cancer, cardiovascular diseases, and thrombosis, providing potential molecular targets for treating related diseases.
