Overview of Gene Research
Tango6 is a gene associated with the coat protein complex I (COPI) vesicle trafficking system. It plays a crucial role in regulating cell proliferation. Tango6 functions by mediating the retrograde transfer of cargo between Golgi cisternae and from the Golgi to the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and is involved in the cell cycle progression pathway. Its importance lies in the regulation of cell expansion, making it a potential target for promoting or arresting cell growth [1].
In mouse hematopoietic stem cells, conditional depletion or overexpression of Tango6 leads to compromised or expanded hematopoiesis respectively [1]. In zebrafish, homozygous tango6cq72 mutants show defective expansion of hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) in the caudal hematopoietic tissue (CHT) and compromised hematopoiesis, while hematopoietic overexpression of Tango6 promotes hematopoietic expansion. tango6 deficiency causes a decline in RNA polymerase II subunit B and accumulation of DNA damage, suppressing cell expansion in a P53-dependent manner [2].
In conclusion, Tango6, through its association with COPI vesicles, plays a significant role in regulating cell cycle progression and hematopoiesis. The conditional knockout and overexpression studies in mouse and zebrafish models have revealed its importance in these biological processes, potentially providing insights for diseases related to abnormal cell proliferation and hematopoiesis [1,2].
