Overview of Gene Research
Oip5os1, also known as 1700020I14Rik, OIP5-AS1, and Cyrano, is a long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) [4]. It is broadly expressed across multiple tissues, with significant enrichment in the nervous system, skeletal muscle, and striated muscles [4]. It has regulatory functions in normal cellular processes such as cell proliferation and survival [4].
In a study of male mice, deletion of Oip5os1 in the setting of streptozotocin-induced diabetes led to left atrial dysfunction and myopathy, associated with anesthesia intolerance and premature death in most KO mice. There was a reduction in the metabolic regulator ERRalpha and a trend for a reduction in Serca2a in the atria of KO mice compared to WT mice, highlighting its role in atrial function in diabetes [1]. In CUMS-induced mice, geniposide regulated the Oip5os1/miR-25-3p/Gata2 network to alleviate depression-like behaviors [2]. Also, PFOS exposure downregulated Oip5os1 in pregnant mice, impairing trophoblast proliferation and migration via the Oip5os1/miR-155/Rnd3 axis, contributing to pre-eclampsia development [3].
In conclusion, Oip5os1 is a context-specific regulator involved in normal cellular processes like cell proliferation and survival. Gene knockout mouse models have revealed its importance in atrial function in diabetes, depression-like behaviors, and pre-eclampsia development, helping to understand the mechanisms of these disease conditions [1,2,3].
