Overview of Gene Research
Lce1f, a member of the Late Cornified Envelope Group I (LCE1) genes, is located in the LCE gene clusters encoding stratum-corneum proteins. It is a novel downstream target of p53, a crucial tumor suppressor gene. Lce1f likely has tumor suppressor functions through modulating the activity of protein arginine methyltransferase 5 (PRMT5), and may also be involved in DNA damage response as its expression level changes with UVC radiation dose in human lymphocytes [2,3].
In a bioinformatics study on the cross-talk between periodontitis (PD) and hypothyroidism (HT), Lce1f was among the top 10 genes with the most connections in the Protein-Protein Interaction (PPI) network. This indicates its potential importance in the genetic cross-talk between these two conditions. However, no gene knockout or conditional knockout mouse model-related findings were presented in the references [1].
In summary, Lce1f is an important gene with potential tumor-suppressing functions via PRMT5 modulation and possible involvement in DNA damage response. Its role in the genetic cross-talk between PD and HT also shows its significance in disease-related genetic mechanisms, despite the lack of evidence from KO/CKO mouse models in the provided references.
