Detailed Document
Overview of Gene Research
Ankrd53, or ankyrin repeat domain 53, is involved in maintaining chromosome integrity and stability. It plays a role in mitosis, a crucial biological process, and is associated with pathways related to spindle dynamics and cytokinesis [1]. It also has potential associations with cancer-related pathways such as the TGF-β signaling pathway [2].
In ANKRD53-depleted HeLa cells, mitosis progression was delayed, the number of unaligned chromosomes increased, spindle MT polymerization decreased, and the spindle assembly checkpoint was activated. Additionally, ANKRD53 depletion led to an increase in bi-nuclei and polylobed nuclei, indicating its role in spindle dynamics and cytokinesis [1]. In stomach adenocarcinoma, ANKRD53 was downregulated, and it was identified as an important biomarker. It was associated with immune checkpoint molecules, immunological pathways, and immunotherapy, as well as MSI, TMB, and neoantigens [2].
In conclusion, Ankrd53 is essential for maintaining chromosome integrity during mitosis, influencing spindle dynamics and cytokinesis. Its role in cancer, especially in stomach adenocarcinoma, as indicated by its downregulation and associations with various cancer-related factors, highlights its potential significance in understanding cancer biology. These functions were revealed through in vitro cell-based loss-of-function studies, which are valuable research models for understanding Ankrd53's gene function in specific biological processes and disease conditions [1,2].
