Overview of Gene Research
Camk1d, or calcium/calmodulin-dependent protein kinase ID, is involved in multiple intracellular signaling pathways and is of great biological importance. It has been linked to pathways such as the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway and is associated with various biological processes and diseases [2].
Global Camk1d-knockout male mice are resistant to ghrelin, gain less body weight, and are protected against high-fat-diet-induced obesity. Deletion of Camk1d in AgRP/NPY neurons recapitulates these phenotypes, indicating its role in ghrelin-mediated food intake [1]. In glioma, knockdown of Camk1D promotes the proliferation, invasion, and migration of glioma cells, suggesting it inhibits glioma through the PI3K/AKT/mTOR pathway [2].
In conclusion, Camk1d is crucial in regulating food intake via its action in AgRP/NPY neurons in response to ghrelin. In addition, it plays a role in inhibiting glioma cell growth. The gene knockout mouse models have been instrumental in revealing these functions, providing insights into potential therapeutic targets for obesity-related diseases and glioma.
