Overview of Gene Research
Sec11c is a gene associated with the endoplasmic reticulum membrane. It is part of the signal peptidase complex (SPC) in the endoplasmic reticulum, which is crucial for removing signal peptides from secretory pre-proteins [1]. The SPC exists in two functional paralogs with distinct proteolytic subunits, and Sec11c may contribute to the function of this complex in specific cell processes.
In the context of human diseases, Sec11c has been implicated in several conditions. In lung adenocarcinoma, it was included in a 6-gene prognostic risk score model related to T-cell mediated cell killing, which can help screen the prognosis of patients and those sensitive to immunotherapy [2]. In parathyroid adenoma, differential gene expression analysis has suggested that Sec11c, along with other genes, may be important factors contributing to the development of this disease [3,4]. In pigs, Sec11c was identified as a candidate gene associated with growth and metabolism traits [5], as well as lipid biosynthesis and fatty acid composition, indicating its potential role in animal growth-related biological processes [6]. Additionally, in colon cancer cells treated with PSP205, Sec11c was among the genes with transcriptional upregulation related to ER-stress response [7].
In conclusion, Sec11c plays an important role in multiple biological processes, especially those related to the endoplasmic reticulum's function in protein processing. Its implications in various diseases like lung adenocarcinoma, parathyroid adenoma, and potentially in colon cancer, as well as its association with growth and lipid-related traits in pigs, highlight its significance in both human health and animal biology research.
