Overview of Gene Research
Il5ra, the interleukin 5 receptor, alpha, is a well-established regulator of eosinophil activation, involved in eosinophil-mediated anti-parasitic activities and allergic reactions. It is associated with pathways such as the PI3K-Akt signaling pathway and Natural killer cell mediated cytotoxicity [1]. It may also play a role in the Jak2/STAT3 signaling cascades [2].

In multiple myeloma, IL5RA was upregulated and associated with cell proliferation, apoptosis, and drug resistance. In vitro and in vivo experiments showed its involvement in these processes, suggesting it could be an immunogenic cell death-related predictor [1]. In pulmonary fibrosis, epithelial IL5RA was upregulated during disease progression and promoted epithelial-mesenchymal transition via the Jak2/STAT3 cascade, and inhibiting it might be a therapeutic strategy [2]. In chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), certain IL5RA SNPs were associated with susceptibility to the disease, with rs13097407 reducing susceptibility and rs3856850 increasing it, and the effect was influenced by sex and smoking [3].

In conclusion, Il5ra plays essential roles in various biological processes and diseases. Studies in multiple myeloma, pulmonary fibrosis, and COPD, through in vitro and in vivo experiments, have revealed its functions in cell behavior, disease progression, and genetic susceptibility, providing insights into potential therapeutic targets and disease-related mechanisms.
