Overview of Gene Research
Saxo4 is one of the genes enriched in male reproductive tissues. However, little is known about its key aliases, associated pathways, and exact function prior to certain studies. Genetic models, like KO mouse models, can be valuable tools for exploring its function [1].
In a study using the CRISPR/Cas9 system to generate gene-deficient mice, including those lacking Saxo4, the gene-deficient mice exhibited normal fertility in natural breeding experiments. This indicates that Saxo4 is not essential for male fertility [1].
In conclusion, through model-based research, Saxo4 has been shown not to be essential for male fertility. The use of Saxo4 KO mouse models has contributed to understanding the dispensability of genes in male reproductive biology, preventing potential duplicate efforts in generating knockout mice for genes without an apparent male-fertility-related phenotype [1].
