Overview of Gene Research
Npdc1, short for neural proliferation differentiation and control 1, is a gene with significant roles in neural cell proliferation, differentiation, and related biological processes. It may be involved in pathways related to tumorigenesis, progression, and chemoresistance, as well as neural development [1,3]. Its expression pattern in different tissues, such as high levels in adult brain and certain secretion glands, suggests diverse functions [4].
In colon cancer, high Npdc1 expression is associated with perineural invasion (PNI), and may serve as a predictive marker for PNI status, disease-free survival, and overall survival [1]. In retinal progenitor cells (RPCs), miR-762 regulates RPC proliferation and differentiation by targeting Npdc1, with miR-762 inhibition of Npdc1 promoting RPC proliferation and suppressing neuronal differentiation [2]. Arhgef2 deficiency affects neural differentiation in the cerebral cortex by reducing m6A methylation of Npdc1 mRNA, inhibiting its translation [3].
In summary, Npdc1 is crucial for neural cell regulation, playing roles in processes like cell proliferation and differentiation. Research on Npdc1 using various models has provided insights into its functions in colon cancer, neural development, and other areas, highlighting its potential as a biomarker and therapeutic target in certain diseases [1,2,3].
