Overview of Gene Research
Ccdc25, short for coiled-coil domain containing 25, is a molecule with diverse functions. It acts as a transmembrane protein and a NET-DNA receptor on cancer cells, activating the ILK-β-parvin pathway to enhance cell motility, which is crucial in cancer metastasis [1]. In the nervous system, it can affect the proliferation and differentiation of neural stem cells (NSCs) as well as neuronal maturation, likely through regulating Egr1 [2].
In cancer research, Ccdc25-knockout cells show abrogated NET-mediated metastasis, indicating its importance in the process of cancer cells being attracted by NET-DNA to form distant metastases [1]. In the context of brain development, suppression of Ccdc25 by shRNAs increases NSCs proliferation and inhibits their premature terminal mitosis and neuronal differentiation, while overexpression has the opposite effects [2].
In summary, Ccdc25 is involved in key biological processes such as cancer metastasis and neural development. Gene-knockout models have been instrumental in revealing its role in these areas, highlighting its potential as a therapeutic target for preventing cancer metastasis and understanding neural development disorders.
