Overview of Gene Research
Lix1l, also known as Limb expression 1-like protein, is involved in post-transcriptional gene regulation [1,2,4]. It has been associated with multiple biological pathways and is of significance in various disease conditions. Genetic models, such as gene knockout (KO) mouse models, have been crucial in studying its functions.
Lix1l deficiency attenuated cholestatic liver injury in BDL and Mdr2-/-mice, indicating that Lix1l promotes cholestatic liver injury by regulating bile acid metabolism [1]. In metabolic dysfunction-associated steatohepatitis (MASH) and associated hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), Lix1l deletion inhibited hepatic lipid accumulation, inflammation, fibrosis, and adipocyte differentiation, alleviating MASH and associated HCC progression in mice [2]. Also, Lix1l deficiency in vivo significantly attenuated liver cancer initiation in mice [3].
In conclusion, Lix1l plays important roles in cholestatic liver injury, MASH-HCC progression, and liver cancer development as revealed through KO mouse models. Understanding Lix1l functions can potentially provide new therapeutic targets for these diseases.
