Bpifa3, with currently no widely-known common aliases, has been associated with certain biological functions relevant to disease susceptibility. While its exact core function is not fully elaborated in the provided references, it is part of the BPIFA gene cluster on chromosome 20q11.21. Pathway analysis in one study connected top candidates to the TGFβ pathway, suggesting Bpifa3 may be involved in this pathway [2]. Understanding Bpifa3 through genetic models like KO or CKO mouse models could potentially shed more light on its in-vivo functions.

In a genome-wide association study for otitis media susceptibility in childhood, Bpifa3 in the BPIFA gene cluster was among the top hits in a gene-based analysis in VEGAS (P(Gene) = 2 × 10(-5)), indicating its possible role in determining susceptibility to otitis media [2].
